Erik Goormaghtigh (Principal Scientific Advisor) is head of the SFMB group and professor at the Université libre de Bruxelles. He is a European leader in the field of FTIR spectroscopy of biological samples, as indicated by 230 publications in peer-reviewed journals, overwhelmingly dedicated to FTIR spectroscopy of biological molecules, cells and tissues, 9036 citations and a H factor =49 (source=SCOPUS), numerous invited conferences at international congresses or summer schools and participations to thesis juries abroad.
During the last 20 years, he has been a regular referee for many foreign institutions, EU-funded projects as well as numerous scientific journals. One major achievement is the writing of a software dedicated to the analysis of infrared spectra and infrared imaging. This software, running under MatLab, covers a broad range of FTIR spectra analysis, including secondary structure prediction tool, automatic identification of the different cell types found in cancer histology sections.
